Sheffield has been hit with widespread flooding and the environment agency have issued a flood warning stating that “immediate action is required”.
One warning states that the areas most at risk are Meadowhall and Carbrook, while another states Ecclesfield to Wincobank are at high risk, both state that “further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours”.
The River Don is a prime concern and river levels are expected to remain high until 9am tomorrow, other warnings have been issued across Sheffield with River Loxley, Blackburn Brook and Ecclesfield Brook expected to flood.
Multiple schools have also been closed as rainfall has reached the fifth highest in a single 24hr period since 1989.
Flooding has closed train lines between Sheffield and Gainsborough, Sheffield and Lincoln and Hebden Bridge and Manchester Victoria with train operator Northern stating that “customers should not attempt to travel”.
